Concept, illustrations, text and layout of my first book
In 2016 I started a ‘little’ project with my friend Margo De Weerdt. We were talking about our interests in drawing, history and how fashion has evolved.
We called our project Historical Appearances. Every two weeks, we posted on our blog a new illustrated period of fashion history. I was focusing on clothes and Margo on make-up.
We gathered a huge amount of information on the internet. But the biggest source of study information came from the YouTube videos of Amanda Hallay.
On 24th October 2016 our first post was launched and the last one ended at 19th November 2017. We put so much time, dedication and effort in this project. It was an achievement to be proud of. So I decided to make the content touchable and to transform it into my first book.
The book contains 21 chapters spanning over 100 pages.
My illustrations are the core of the book. This results in a very visual design. The only one graphic element is the vertical line beneath the title. I choose just one color to match all my illustrations. Below are a few examples of the spreads.
